Welcome to ROMANIA
an extra service of European City Guide / ECG
eurocityguide.com - europeancityguide.com

Information about ROMANIA Romania has majestic castles, medieval towns, great hiking and wildlife, and cheap skiing and is one of the 'undiscovered' countries of the former Eastern Bloc. Historically, it was formed as much by the Greeks and Turks as by its western neighbours, and it certainly feels different to other European countries. Romania has a juicy calendar of folklore festivals and numerous smaller ones remain unpublicised, preserving their authenticity. Romanians are extremely hospitable people. They will gladly welcome strangers to eat in their modest homes, and expect nothing in return other than friendship. Romania abounds with nature and has 13 national parks. The Carpathian mountains, which cover a third of the country, boast the least spoilt forests in Europe and are now home to 60% of Europe's bears. Some 40% of Europe's wolves and 35% of its lynx also live there. The protected Danube delta has the largest unbroken reed bed in the world.
